“We paint from memory but we also paint to remember or else we paint to reinvent. Within these boundaries and languages truth can be alternately distorted or clarified.”

These five artists use paint as a means to navigate the complexities of 21st century society and reflect on the human condition. From the diasporic experience of straddling two cultures, to neurodivergent ways of seeing the world this group of artists cross; gender, sexual and social norms disrupting the gaze, frames of reference and realities.

Working across styles and scales to explore the mundane, the performative, and the memorial through the lens of past histories and current socio-political conditions. Images are pieced together, contingent, and evolving. Paint is gestural, restrained, promiscuous, bodily and duplicitous. These five figurative painters, all deal with fake realities and unapproachable pasts to perform notions of presence and reality in the realm of the imaginary.
