Open Call: Sounds of Making by Surface Matters

You are invited to participate in the Sounds Of Making audio exchange project.

Sounds Of Making invites female identifying artists of different ages with a contemporary art practice that engages with materials to record the sounds of themselves making and discussing their practice with Surface Matters.

Sounds of Making explores the multiple sounds and voices of creative practitioners during this challenging time. As many have wrestled with getting going and ‘doing’ others have experienced creative flurries. How might stories be captured in sound through the act of making and what resonance does working with materials provide? Where does the need to ‘do’ come from and how does this add to the orchestra of being here and now? What is the relationship between having a creative practice and other necessities?

Are materials fused with narratives of their own and how might these be activated through touch and sound? Surface Matters formed in 2019, seeking to foster discourse, creative exchange and critical debate for intergenerational female artists whose work utilises making and materiality.

Surface Matters explores human connections to space, place, being and making through creating an opportunity for collective learning, exhibiting and dialogue.
