Led by studio holder Sally McKay (4-115), The Thursday Art Class began during the pandemic as a weekly online class, when Sally realised that many local people, particularly those from older generations, were feeling isolated and missing the opportunity to take part in creative group activities.

After lockdown, the class continued in the Education Space (Unit 2), where it has grown into a welcoming and supportive creative community. Sally facilitates sessions with a focus on drawing and painting across a range of different media. Participants are also encouraged to develop their own projects exploring ideas at their own pace.

Each term, Sally invites fellow creatives, many of them Thames-Side studio holders, to lead a session, bringing their own specialist skills and energy to the group. These sessions have been inspirational and enlightening, resulting in great work and introducing participants to new ways of working.

The emphasis in the class is on learning and sharing in a supportive exploratory creative morning, for all skill levels.
