To be All Mouth No Trousers is to talk without any real substance, to have no intention of acting on one’s words. This suggests a kind of surface interaction, of screens, façades, the impossible project, an empty promise of work… You can also be All Mouth and Trousers, which apparently means the same thing. Still, perhaps it depends on the trousers? Gesturing towards where something isn’t, or wasn’t, the works in show upend the sense of misplaced absence by their sheer physicality, where the weight, texture, form and three-dimensionality refuses to be anywhere other than where it is. The sense of nothing to grab at is nuanced and subverted, to hint at a more hopeful ‘might be’. After all, to currently have no trousers promises future trousers in a rather gorgeous tweed…
