Tina Crawford's Commission for the Parliamentary Art Collection

Tina Crawford (TB-116) was commissioned by the Parliamentary Art Collection to commemorate the Lying-In-State of the late monarch Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Along with five other artists (Julia Midgley, Dryden Goodwin, Lachlan Goudie, Eleanor Crook and Caroline Walker), Tina was commissioned by the Speaker’s Advisory Committee on Works of Art (House of Commons) and the Lord Speaker’s Advisory Panel (House of Lords) to observe and record activity in Westminster. The six works have captured different aspects of that historic period.

"Over the time I had in residency at The Palace of Westminster the thing that struck me the most was the amount of the public who came to pay tribute and inbetween all the pomp and ceremony was the very British thing of queuing in casual clothes and rucksacks. It was an emotional experience and as materials themselves are important to my work - the piece, 'A Million Footsteps' is made from remnants of the catafalque (7 pieces to be exact to represent each decade of service)."

The exhibition in Westminster Hall opens in July. Free tickets will be bookable on the UK Parliament website at the beginning of June. More information here
