Thames-Side Studios Talks: History of the site with Rob Detenon

Education Space (Unit 2)

Many thanks to Rob Detenon, General Manager, Emafyl for his fascinating talk about the history of the site. Rob linked the history of the site to makers stretching back nearly 500 years to the shipbuilders of Henry VIII in 1512, through to Siemens Brothers & Co Ltd cable factory built here in 1863 and which was responsible for building and laying the first Atlantic Cable in 1873-4 with the cable steamer Faraday. Rob then took us right up to the present day and its current state as the largest single-site studio provider for artists and makers in the UK.
