About Elena Kartintseva

Elena Artist (UK, born 1973) trained at Moscow State Academy of Print.

Elena’s work is poetical and tends toward telling of stories, a fictional story told in colour, where some long reflected emotion is fixed in an imagined space, and the subject matter becomes a symbol of a psycho-condition. Technically experimental, Elena uses rollers, springs and prepared wood blocks imprinted on synthetic soft ground for the main mark making and tonalities, then uses deep etched incisions as a painting matrix for colour inks.

At Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2024 she presents works of ‘beautiful sadness’.

One work is from ‘Celestial relations’, the series of etchings on a metaphorical exploration of themes such as grief, inevitable end and a farewell rehearsal.

The second work, ‘Hold my mule’, is a representation of Highs and Falls waves of life. Inspired by Rudy Royston’s composition and of America’s south great culture.

Elena is an academically trained painter and illustrator graduated from Moscow State Academy of Print (1991-1997, MA in Fine Art Honour with distinction). She has exhibited widely since 1996 in number of shows, galleries and museums. Including NCCA and Brunel museum. Her paintings and prints are held in many private and some public collections around the world. She lives and works in London.
