About Thomas Barry

'I enjoy working in a variety of artistic media, including oil and watercolour painting, ceramic, bronze, stone and wood sculpture, and a variety of printmaking methods. I find drypoint and aquatint appealing methods of printmaking for conveying subtle gradations of light and fine details. Attention to detail is a persistent aspect of my artwork and is also an important part of my full-time career as an art conservator.'

'Landscapes are a subject matter to which I most frequently return; a common theme I look for in landscapes is the sublime. The black and white tones of aquatint and drypoint can convey with great clarity dramatic and sometimes overwhelming scenes in nature. Although most of my printworks revolve around nature, I also enjoy whimsical and surreal subjects.'
